50 States Practice

Here's a great website on which you can practice your fifty states for the test Friday. State the State Click on Easy, Choose It, and 50 Questions. For a harder challenge choose one of the other levels.

Tons of Fun Heading Our Way!

The end of the school year is always a busy but exciting time! Here's a quick rundown of some of the fun we'll be having over the next few weeks.

May 5-9 - Teacher Appreciation Week! Students show their appreciation for their teachers in whatever way they see fit. For me, the best way to show your appreciation is working hard and having a great attitude!

May 15 - Beauclerc Olympic Games! Formerly Play Day or Field Day, the Beauclerc Olympics is a contest between classes in a variety of fun races! Our class will be representing the country of Kosovo, the homeland of Drita Kelmendi.

May 19 - 23 - The Tenth Annual Knowledge-Bowl Competition! The Knowledge-Bowl is an annual tradition in Mr. Sofferin's class in which the Superstars compete against each other in a week-long showdown to see who has mastered the most! You'll be quizzed on everything from matter and energy to animals; from economics to geography; from multiplication facts to polygons; from Judy Moody to Granny Torrelli; and so much more! The winner will win a special trophy and get to go to lunch and to the movies with Mr. Sofferin and a friend for free! See if you have what it takes to join these former Superstars!

June 5 - Class Party!  Finally, our end of the year bash!  Kids will earn their class awards, have a wonderful end of the year lunch, and get to see our third grade video year book!

We also have a ton of other fun stuff planned right in the classroom, including some fun projects and other activities.  Of course, this "end of the year" won't be like most others, since most of us will be back together again next week.  This year will with more of a "To Be Continued" vibe.  But I plan to make it just as fun and memorable regardless.

FCAT Next Week!!!

The FCAT is next week!  Here's what the schedule looks like for the week:

  • Monday, April 14 - Reading - 70 Minutes
  • Tuesday, April 15 - Reading - 70 Minutes
  • Wednesday, April 16 - Math - 70 Minutes (Also Early Release)
  • Thursday, April 17 - Math - 70 Minutes
In room 81, we know that we have NOTHING to worry about.  We have been working hard all year learning how to think and I have no doubt that we will be successful next week.  But here are a few reminders for parents and kids to make sure that the week goes smoothly.
  • Get a good night's sleep this weekend.  70 minutes of reading is tough even with sleep, but it'll be much harder if you're not well-rested.  Don't stay up late Saturday either!  Make sure you're fully rested on Monday morning.
  • Eat a decent breakfast - McDonalds will once again be giving out free breakfast on the first morning of the FCAT - so get there early for your Egg McMuffin!  Or eat something different if you want, but make sure it gives you plenty of protein.  Also, make sure not to drink too much liquid with your breakfast, since you won't be allowed to use the restroom during the test.
  • Get to school on time!!! - Set your clothes out the night before, wake up early enough to get fully ready for school, and get to school by 8:25.  A late start to your day will throw you off for the test, and if you're really late, you'll have to sit in the office the rest of the morning and have to make up the test the following week.
