To get a better look at the Election Issues data we collected this week, I averaged the results from all 20 graphs, and plotted a graph for the whole class. This shows the results of surveying 200 adults - a pretty decently sized sample for our Beauclerc community.
Clearly, Education, Jobs/Economy, and Health Care are the biggest issues facing our community. Considering that Florida is the single most important state in the Election and Jacksonville is one of the most important areas of Florida in terms of deciding who wins Florida's electoral votes, it will be no surprise to see President Obama and Governor Romney visiting our area over and over again over then next month and a half! And it's also no wonder why these three issues are the ones that they'll be talking about the most.
Starting Tuesday, we'll be taking much closer looks at the issues, beginning with the ones that the class has determined to be the most important.

Election Surveys
Yesterday, students averaged the results from their Election Surveys and graphed the results. The data was very diversified, but there were a few trends. "Education" and "Jobs/Economy" were the two highest ranked issues in almost every survey, with "Health Care" and "Poverty" coming in close behind. Starting next week, we'll be taking a closer look at each of these issues, exploring why they're so important, debating over ideas for fixing the problems, and checking out what President Obama and Governor Romney have to say about them.

The New Newbies
Yesterday, we were fortunate in room 40 to get 4 brand new students! Meet the newest Superstars - Kipp, Jaymes, and Elizabeth from Ms. Stokes' class, along with Anthony, who comes to us from another Duval school.

Of course, with all these new kids, we had to redo our class picture. Somebody nudge Darentz and tell him to look at the camera instead of at Klea!

Oh, and here are my two favorite fourth grade teachers, Mrs. Donnelly and Mrs. Jenkins, photo-bombing our class picture!

- OPTIONAL - You may bring some money for the gift shop at the Marine Science Center. Mainly they have things like shark-tooth necklaces other jewelry.

Lots of New Students!
Today we had a huge and wonderful surprise as FOUR new students joined the Sofferin's Superstars - bringing our class up to 22 students!
Our first new student, Anthony, joined us first thing in the morning from another Duval School. Anthony was very excited to join our class and I think he's going to fit in very nicely!
In the afternoon, we got three more great kids! Unfortunately, due to the low numbers of kids in fifth grade and the high number of kids in Kindergarten, Ms. Stokes had to change grade levels. That meant her kids had to be split up among the other classes. It was a very sad day for Ms. Stokes and her class, but a happy day for us, as we got three brand new Sofferin's Superstars - Jaymes, Elizabeth, and Kipp!
I guess now that Abdullah's gone and we have four more newbies, I'll need to change the picture at the top of the blog. Check back tomorrow for an update!
