Field Trip to UNF!
We had a great day at UNF's Wildlife Sanctuary! We learned about tracking animals and how much you can learn about an animal just from its tracks. Here are some pictures from the trip!

5th Graders at UNF

We learned about four different ways that animals walk: Diagonal walking, pacing, bounding, and galloping

Tyra tries out some diagonal walking

The boys compete in a galloping relay race

Then we studied animal tracks to discover what type of animal might have left them.

We were joined for the day by Savanah and Natalie from Mr. Gibbons's class!

Unfortunately, due to the cold, most of the animals were out of sight. The only animal we could get a good look at was this grasshopper.

Lots of Work with Computers!
A couple months ago, we finally got computers in all of the classrooms! Since then, we've been taking advantage of the technology as much as we can! Check out a couple of the ways we've been using our Macs over the last couple weeks.
We've been making presentations on the program, "Keynote," which is a Apple program that's very similar to Microsoft's PowerPoint. Students researched different battles from the Revolutionary War, and created slide show presentations that they will share with the class next week! If I can get them formatted properly, I will try to post them online when they're completed!

In Math, we've been working with a program called "Geo-Logo," which is software designed specifically for use with the Math Investigations curriculum. Students have gotten some experience with basic computer programming language, using commands to draw polygons, determine turns and angles, and compare features of similar shapes.

REPORT CARDS!!!

Report cards went home today! Please review the card with your child. Make note of areas in which the student needs additional work. Sign the bottom of the report card, cut where indicated, put in the envelope, and sign the bottom of the envelope. Then, have your child return the envelope to school tomorrow!
