Knowledge-Bowl 2012!

Next Wednesday, we'll begin our six-day Knowledge-Bowl competition!  This competition is unlike anything we do all year.  It's a competition to see who has accumulated the most knowledge throughout the course of the year.  Students will face off against each other to answer questions about science, math, social studies, books we've read, and so much more.  The winner will win a great-looking engraved trophy!  Here's our last year's winner, Klea and the five other finalists:

The winner will also get to choose a friend from the class to go with them to the opening day showing of "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" in 3D on June 8th, the day after school lets out!

It's a tough competition, so if you want to win, you'd better know your stuff!

Check back this weekend for a SNEAK PEAK!  :D

Play Day Coming Next Monday!

The first in our many great events for the end of the year is coming up next Monday!  Play Day is always a blast at Beauclerc.  Coach Dudjak has once again planned a lot of great relay events including some classics and some brand new events.  Here are some pictures from the events from last year that he's bringing back!

Dress Up Relay

Beach Ball Relay

Three-Legged Relay

Soccer Ball Relay

Sack Relay

Running Relay

Jump Rope Relay

In addition, there will be some brand new relays, including Hula Hoop Relay, Crab Walk Relay, and Tennis Racket Relay.  Parents are encouraged to come and help cheer on our class!  Our fourth grade Play Day begins at 12:30, so it will be VERY HOT outside!  Make sure to wear comfortable, outside clothes, a water bottle, and bring sunscreen to put on before we go outside!  If a parent wants to volunteer to bring drinks or a snack for the class, let me know!

Monday, April 23, 2012

As always, there is a lot going on during these last several weeks of school!  To start with, we're going to be doing a lot of fun, engaging projects that will stretch your children's creativity!  We've started a project this week in reading having to do with the book we just finished - Holes.  Next week, we'll be doing a very fun and VERY challenging project in math in which kids will get to design their very own amusement park!  We're also going to be writing our own original stories and publishing them into books.  And of course, we're also working on developing our science fair projects.

We also have a lot of fun things happening outside the classroom!  On May 15, we're having a school-wide science fair.  The following week, we're headed on a field trip to Theatreworks to see a play of The Hundred Dresses.  On May 31, Amber, Kenniah, Dusti, Elysha, and Alexis are performing in our second annual Talent Show!  And on June 6, it's our class end-of-the year party!

But the event that most of the students are most excited for is the Knowledge-Bowl!  This week-long competition to see who has learned the absolute most this year begins on May 23rd.  The winner and a friend will get to go to the opening day showing of "Madagascar 3" the day after school gets out!  And of course, they'll also get a way-cool trophy and the bragging rights that go along with winning!  Klea won last year, but this year anyone could beat her!  Be on the look-out for review sheets of the stuff that will be on the Knowledge-Bowl.

Big Spooky FCAT Week

It's time once again for everyone's favorite time of the school year!  FCAT Week!  Hurray!

Of course, in room 40, we have NOTHING to worry about when it comes to the "FCAT".  Our class has consistently excelled in every opportunity we've had.  I have no doubt the same will be true this coming week.  But just to make sure that we do the best that we can, remember the following:

  • Get a good night's sleep Sunday night - 70 minutes reading is tough even with sleep - It'll be harder if you're not rested!
  • Eat a decent breakfast - McDonalds will once again be giving free breakfast to students taking the FCAT- so get there early for your Egg McMuffin breakfast!  But don't drink too much juice or milk with your breakfast!
  • Get to school on time!
That's about it!  Other than that, enjoy your weekend and get ready to lay the smack-down on the FCAT on Monday!
