Friday Folders

Every Friday, students will bring home Friday Folders, which will contain papers from the week including important notes, graded homework and tests. The folder includes a sheet that will tell the number of items in the folder. Each weekend, please make sure to empty the folder, review the contents, sign the form inside, and have your child return it to school on Monday.

The Friday Folders came home today for the first time along with a homework assignment from earlier this week. In future weeks, there will be more checked assignments and tests. So be sure to check it every week!

Student Council Election!

Today, our six Student Council Nominees gave their speeches, and the class voted. The winner by a landslide was:

and coming in second place, the alternate will be:

Devon!!!

Congratulations to both of you for doing a wonderful job convincing the class that you were the right person for the job! You're going to be an important part of the student government as you help plan and organize a schoolwide mock presidential election (just don't mess up when you're counting the votes!), plan a campaign to help get the playground cleaned up, and work together with your peers to find solutions to other problems that Beauclerc students face.

Strange Things?

Mrs. Allen, our school guidance counselor is doing a psychological study with our fourth and fifth graders. She wants to see how doing certain movements to exercise the right and left hemispheres of your brain affects test anxiety.

Mrs. Kornblum thinks it's pretty strange. You be the judge:

Mrs. Allen will be doing all sorts of other great things with our students this year, including some great lessons on conflict resolution, which will be essential for when your children go into middle school!

Thanks For Coming To Open House!!!!

Wow! What a wonderful turnout last night! Out of 22 families, 18 were represented at Open House last night. Even Ms. Kornblum was impressed at what a "packed house" we had! I told her, "That's what happens when you bribe children!" In addition, I am very pleased thtat several volunteered to help out as room parents! That is a huge relief for me, as we will definitely need parents to help out with parties, field trips, and other special events throughout the year.

Also, I want to thank everyone who helped out by joining the PTA! If you haven't yet joined, it's not too late to help out! Just ask your child to pick up a PTA donation envelope at school.

Please Support the PTA!

The PTA at our school works very hard to organize all sorts of wonderful activities and events for our students. If you haven't already done so, please help to support the PTA by contributing $5 in the envelope that was provided last week. You can also contribute when you come to Open House tomorrow.

Remember, Open House begins at 6:30. Don't worry! I plan to make it very quick this year.

One final note - in lieu of the Welcome Back Breakfast that had to be cancelled last Friday, we're going to have a start of the year luncheon at school this Friday! All parents are invited to join us in the classroom for pizza! Lunch starts at 1:00! If you'd like to bring drinks or chips, let me know ASAP!

So Long, Fay!

Fay is finally gone! I hope everybody stayed safe over the extended weekend we've had. Personally, the first few days of school are always very stressful, so it was kind of nice to have that little break. But I'm anxious to get back to school and see all of you!

Since we were robbed of our first week together, we'll be on fast-forward mode this coming week, trying to make up lost ground. We'll be starting our first science, social studies, and math units, as well as finishing up with some start of the year "stuff" that we have to do.

Tuesday is Open House, and it is EXTREMELY important that all parents come, even if your child was in my class last year. There's a lot of new information to share with you and some of my basic expectations and procedures have changed from last year.

Also, another reminder - make sure you mark the three Weather Days to the right on your calendar, as school will be in session those days to make up for the days we missed last week!
