When we lose someone we love,
Our life becomes strange,
The ground beneath us gets fragile,
Our thoughts make our eyes unsure;
And the loss drags our voices down
Where words have no confidence.
And though this loss has wounded us
No one knows what has been taken from each of us
When the silence of absence deepens.
Flickers of guilt kindle regret
For all that was left unsaid or undone.
There are days when we wake up happy;
And inside the fullness of life,
Until the moment breaks
And we are thrown back
Onto the black tide of loss.
Days when we have our hearts back,
We are able to function well
Until the middle of work or encounter,
Suddenly with no warning,
We are ambushed by grief.

It becomes hard to trust ourselves
All we can depend on now
Is that sorrow will remain.
Sorrow knows the right time
To loosen the coiled rope of grief
And lets go its last tear drop.
Gradually, we will learn acquaintance
With the invisible form of our departed;
And when the work of grief is done
The wound of loss will heal
And we will have learned to accept
That gap in outer life
And be able to enter the warmth
With the invisible form of our departed;
And when the work of grief is done
The wound of loss will heal
And we will have learned to accept
That gap in outer life
And be able to enter the warmth
In each heart
Where our loved one remains.
Where our loved one remains.
We all love and miss you, Ms. Harris.

We'll all miss her... school won't be the same anymore.
No, it won't be the same, Isabel. But we'll all get through it together.
I'm so sorry for your faculty and her students. I was one of the lucky teachers who had Kym for an ESOL class. I smile as I remember her stories of her Bubbie, her dogs, a student who made a computer go haywire with a magnet, and her brother who came to school and fixed the computer. You have posted some wonderful pictures of Kym. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Shalom and L'hitra'ot, Kym!

Thanks, Liz. I can't take credit for the poem though. That was sent to me from Mrs. Allen. A few of the pictures at the top were sent to me by Mr. Gibbons.
Beautiful tribute. Beautiful lady. Thanks for sharing the poem and pictures. Many hearts are heavy today.
Mr. Sofferin,
This is a beautiful tribute to a very special person. My name is Hollis Roth and I'm one of Kym's first cousins.
Her three passions in life were always teaching, animals, and Elvis, which you obviously knew from the pictures you posted.
Thank you for putting this together and sharing it with all of Kym's friends and family.
