Another Terrific Week!

First off I want to thank all the parents who came to Open House last night! As usual we had a packed house! I hope the preview of 4th grade math strategies was helpful to everyone. As promised, I'll be posting tutorial videos on the blog when we get to the multiplication and division strategies. Below, you'll see a complete overview of the curriculum and procedures in room 40.

In social studies this week, we're doing a really fun research project on Ancient Civilizations - the kids are creating their own news broadcast show and will be filming next week! Then, I'll be teaching them how to edit their movies in iMovie! If your kids ask to bring in bedsheets for costumes, that's why!

In science, the kids learned how caves and canyons are formed through the processes of weathering and erosion. Here are some pictures of the kids discovering how the Grand Canyon was formed.

Unfortunately, this group got to see how a mudslide forms instead!

Today, we had another Master Chef Writing Competition, and the winner with an incredibly sad story was Axel!

Today we took a math quiz on addition strategies and almost every student scored a perfect 100%. One student who has done an incredible job explaining her thinking in math, Alexis, is our Star Student for the Week! Great job, Alexis!
