Mr. Sofferin's Public Dropbox

I'm all about technology and the Internet.  I like to avoid accumulating papers as much as possible, so rather than print out loads of copies of certain documents, I will instead be posting them in my Public Dropbox folder.  Using the link below, parents and students can view the files online or download them to your computer, smartphone, or tablet.  Throughout the year, additional items that don't need printing will be added to the public Dropbox for your convenience.  If any parent does NOT have access to any Internet-capable device, please let me know so that I can provide you with paper copies of things that I upload to Dropbox.  Also, please note - several businesses block cloud-based systems, such as Dropbox, so you might not be able to access the link from your work computer.  Right now, there are three important items uploaded:

  • Supply List - in case you never got one or lost your copy
  • Curriculum and Policies Guide - 7-page overview for parents of the curriculum, teaching strategies, and policies of room 81
  • How to Be a Superstar - Full-color brochure for the third graders, written entirely by my fifth grade class from last year!  Note - You won't see any mention of reading, writing, or social studies in the brochure.  That's only because when I had my kids do the writing, I thought I would not be teaching those subjects this year.

The 2014 Superstars!

The new school year is finally approaching!

After what was seriously the greatest year ever for me last year, with the most amazing group of fifth graders I've ever known, I have been anxiously awaiting all summer for a new batch of third graders.  The new school year couldn't come fast enough for me!  But now it's finally here!

I hope to see all of my new third graders, along with their parents at orientation, on Friday, August 16th, at 10:00 AM.  Then, I'll see you all on Monday, August 19th, for the first day of school!

In the meantime, here's a list of all of your classmates for the coming year!  Try to see how many of the names you recognize.  Sorry, I can't post last names on-line, so you'll have to do your best with just the first names and last initials!

Farewell to the 2013 Superstars

The day that we had been dreading for several weeks now has come and gone. We all managed to get through the tearful goodbyes, and now you all move on to bigger and better things!

For the Patrols, you'll still have a week to enjoy at least part of your Beauclerc family during your Washington trip. You'll have a blast!

For the rest of you, have a fun and restful summer! And don't forget to (at least occasionally) exercise your brain by reading some books. The rest of the "Giver" series would be a great place to start - "The Gathering Blue", "The Messenger", and "Son" finish the story and are just as good as the original. Also, don't forget that you'll still have access to IXL and MangaHigh through the entire summer. IXL in particular would be a great resource to practice any fifth grade skills that you still need to work on or to preview skills that you will be learning in sixth grade.

When the end of August rolls around (it will be sooner than you think!), you'll all be starting middle school, and getting used to new classmates, teachers, and routines. And I'll be starting with a whole new fresh batch of kids at Beauclerc. Hopefully, I can guide them into being as hard-working, caring, brilliant as you have been. Don't forget you can always come by and visit any time you like. Whether with good news or bad news or with no reason at all, I will always be eager to hear from you.

"Superstars Forever!"

American Grandstand

American Grandstand was a great success!  Massive thanks to all of the parents for bringing their kids to the nighttime show, to Tommy, Blaine, Elysha, Justice, and Israel for filling in for missing kids, and an extra special thanks to Mrs. Yadon and Mrs. Hayden for being their to help out!
