Science Fair

Today, I introduced the science fair project to both classes. Over the next two months, students will be working on a project that involves coming up with a question and designing an experiment to test out their hypothesis. Most of the children have done science fair projects in past years, and this will be just like the ones they've done in the past.

A packet of information detailing what needs to be in the project went home today, along with a time line that lists when specific components of the project should be completed by. Each Tuesday up through May 11th, I will be checking that each student has completed the necessary component and has gotten their time line initialed in the appropriate place by a parent. This will help keep students on track and help parents and myself to monitor their progress.

We will be using a lot of our class time over the next week and a half working on these projects in class. I will help students and pairs of students write their plan for their project, come up with suitable questions, and plan for data collection. After that, much of the work on the project will be done outside of school. After spring break, we will use some of our Friday computer time to make tables, graphs, and also to type the written portion of the project. But the actual research, experiment, data collection, and designing of the backboard should be done mostly at home.

Additionally, the school will once again be supplying display boards at a much cheaper price than the stores! Display boards can cost up to $12.00 in most stores, but through the school, they're only $2.25.
