Fun With Chemical Changes

For the past two weeks, we've been doing a bunch of science experiments and demonstrations involving chemical and physical changes. Physical changes are rather boring compared to chemical changes, so I only have pictures of the latter.

First, we created carbon dioxide gas by combining vinegar and baking soda, and used it to inflate a balloon!



























Next, we demonstrating all three main evidences of a chemical change by combining baking soda, calcium chloride, and bromothymol blue. The blue liquid instantly turned orange, got very cold, and foamed up, filling the bag with gas.












Then, we did some more neat tricks with carbon dioxide gas. We made some dancing spaghetti.










We used carbon dioxide gas to put out some candles, one by one.


















Finally, we did the old soda and Mentos explosion!





This coming week, we'll be continuing our work with physical and chemical changes with an entire week of SLIME LAB!
